Education
Alexius International has experience modernizing educational systems at the university, secondary and elementary levels. In higher education, a lack of linkages with the productive sectors of the economy can lead academia to educate workers in a way which produces inadequate skill sets for the demands of the economy. Alexius has supported universities and university systems in establishing bridges with the private sector in order to establish symbiotic relationships that ensure employers have access to qualified human resources.
In order to integrate ICTs into the classroom at the elementary or secondary level, a school system must evaluate their capabilities in training faculty and deploying school management systems, as well as determine other issues that can be addressed through the use of technology. Some of the elements Alexius undertakes when incorporating technology into a school’s mission are adjustments to course curriculum, building parent associations into the process as key stakeholders, and integrating technology into the institution's administration. In order to make the most of available technologies, Alexius also encourages the use of distance learning and establishing links between schools to maximize the benefits of newly developed methods and educational exchanges. Like the work Alexius does in other sectors, the Education sector focuses on long-term sustainability, based on systems that allow all stakeholders (students, faculty, public and private sectors) to work with one another and meet their goals.
Projects in which Alexius has focused on the Education sector are:
- Open Source Migration
- Alexius worked with the Ministry of Labor in Guatemala to implement a sustainable solution to its information systems platforms, implementing Open Source software with extensive training sessions. Through this, the Ministry has a sustainable cost structure and licensed software, allowing it to better serve Guatemala.
- Strengthening ICT Access and Use in Education
- Alexius worked with USAID and the Eritrean government to establish computer labs in rural secondary schools throughout the country in order to increase students' access to ICTs and through this, increase Eritrea's human capital development.
- University Curriculum Reform
- Alexius worked with USAID to help update Armenia's university curriculum in order to create graduates fully prepared to enter the workforce.
